Bank Effect : Bow Cushion and Suction

In this course, you will learn about the bank effect, specifically the bow cushion and suction that occur when a ship navigates through a narrow channel. You will gain an understanding of how the interaction between ship and the bank and how it can can affect their movement and behavior, and how the shape of the vessels themselves can play a role in this. You will learn about the importance of sailing in the centerline of a channel to avoid the turning effect caused by the cushion effect, as well as how to sail parallel to a channel bank with a permanent rudder.
