Manual start

Procedure for manual starting of lifeboat engine:

  • There is a fail-safe spring start/ manual cranking method if the battery start fails.
  • Put the decompression lever in the open position.
  • Prime the fuel lines with diesel oil and keep the fuel setting lever initially to a quarter of a notch.
  • Engage the cranking lever and crank the engine manually.
  • Once sufficient momentum is gained, engage the decompression lever.
  • When the engine starts, make sure the crank lever is out
  • Decreases the fuel setting to a minimum notch.
  • The engine is now idling at RPM.
  • Engage the clutch in both positions, ahead and astern, and check for the free running of the propeller.
  • Open the decompression lever once the engine is stopped
